Hylas was the son of King Theodamas of the Dryopes. After Hercules killed Hylas's father, Hylas became a companion of Hercules. They both became Argonauts and accompanied Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece on his ship Argo. During the voyage, Hylas was sent to fetch fresh water. He found a pool occupied by naiads, who lured Hylas into the water and he disappeared.
